The Journey to Finding Relief of Vestibular Issues

Most patients do not know that dizziness and balance comes from the inner ear. Your inner ear houses something called a vestibular system, and this controls how your brain interprets your orientation in space. If something is damaged or inflamed in this system, you will experience imbalance, dizziness, vertigo, feeling 'off' or like you're rocking on a boat. The symptoms can be constant or intermittent. The patients who come to Midwest Dizziness and Balance Institute have seen an average of 4 professionals, and many are told: "its part of age", "it'll get better on it's own", or "there's not a lot you can do for it." Some are prescribed Meclizine or Valium/Diazepam and this does nothing to fix the system. Let us be the last stop on your journey - If you, or someone you know, has been experiencing these concerns, please contact us to make an appointment. We can help.

You don’t have to live with the uncomfortable symptoms of vestibular issues. With a proper diagnosis and treatment plan, you can get your life back and experience improved health, balance, and wellness, all by consulting with the knowledgeable team at Midwest Dizziness and Balance Institute. We have a success rate of 87% in helping patients reduce their symptoms of dizziness, imbalance and vertigo.

How Does it Work?

DBIMW (5).png

Anyone can call and make an appointment. Only specific insurances require a referral from a physician. When you call, we will schedule 2 appointments. Once you have scheduled, as a courtesy, we will verify your insurance benefits and provide you an ESTIMATE of what your cost will be. We are in network with all insurances, including Medicare. The estimate pertains to costs associated with your deductible, copays, co-insurance and any non-covered services deemed by your insurance.

The first appointment will be a 15 min phone call - You will speak with our medical assistant over the phone and your history of symptoms will be reviewed.

The second appointment is approximately 3 hours of testing in the office. The balance system is very intricate and there is not one test to assess the entire system, so a series of tests are administered (see the services page for the descriptions of the tests). At this appointment, you will go through 4 different rooms for us to administer multiple small tests to put the picture together. Having all the data on the 10 inner ear spots will allow us to figure out what part of the ear is causing your dizziness, vertigo, and imbalance.  We are one of the only places in St. Louis that tests the ENTIRE system.  The initial assessment is non-invasive and painless.

After your assessment, you will schedule your results appointment on your way out. We will analyze all your results and when you come back in for the Results appointment, we will go through all the results and suggested treatments for each finding. â€‹

We use Advanced Vestibular Treatment to treat dizziness, vertigo, and imbalance disorders. Treatments can range between 1 and 12 visits, it typically includes home exercises to assist in your recovery, & the treatment is specialized for every patient. Our treatment is 85-90% effective in reducing the frequency, severity and intensity of your symptoms.

You can always consult with your provider on the treatment plan outlined, your condition, and what to expect from treatment. Having open communication from both parties will aid in the success of your treatments.

What Makes Us Unique

In the past, patients with dizziness, vertigo and imbalance underwent very minimal testing and were just sent to Physical Therapy, where something called Vestibular Rehab Therapy (VRT) was done. VRT has been around since the 1960's and is a blanket therapy that uses the same exercises for everyone. This makes it only about 50% effective, because it doesn't always target the actual spot in the inner ear that is damaged or not working. Without having the testing and knowing exactly what is happening in the system, how can a therapy target the problem? At Midwest Dizziness and Balance Institute, we assess the entire inner ear to know exactly what is happening to the system, then use patient specific treatment to help repair and restore the system back to balance. Providing patients with the appropriate diagnosis and patient specific treatment has always been our commitment.

We are one of only 5 centers in the country that provides Audiology driven testing and treatment methods to specifically treat imbalance, vertigo and dizziness. Our state-of-the-art facility, partnered with our highly trained vestibular audiologists and use of advanced technology, are what you should trust for all your inner ear balance issues. All of our Audiologists are Doctoral level trained with a minimum of 5 years experience and with upwards of 20 years of experience.

Let us properly assess, diagnose and treat your vestibular system utilizing our knowledge along with the best equipment. We'll evaluate your entire balance system and provide the appropriate treatment for you. Self-referrals as well as physician referral are accepted.

We hope Midwest Dizziness & Balance Institute is your first and last step in bringing your life back into balance.

Kind Words from Real Patients

Jaime and her staff are absolutely amazing. I was having bouts of extreme dizziness that would come out of nowhere, making everything difficult from driving, going to work, to just rolling over in bed. Staff were so kind, and would bring me in anytime I needed for an evaluation and adjustment. They were also able to come up with a diagnosis and worked on improving gravity of the sensors in my ears. I am happy to report that I am dizzy-free for well over 3 months now. Highly recommend!
